Meet the Founder

Dr. Shermnae D. Jones

I built the activewear I couldn't find. Then I built a brand that could grow with me.

I've worn a lot of hats in my life. Some came with degrees and professional titles. Others came with a whole lot of figuring things out as I went.

But Voluptuocity started with something much simpler: I wanted workout clothes that fit my body, reflected my style and didn't cost a small fortune.

2020 · Atlanta

It Started With Activewear

That was 2020. I wore a size 26/28 and I was already working out, so the motivation wasn't the problem. The options were. There weren't many, they were often expensive, and very few of them reflected my style.

So I started Voluptuocity here in Atlanta. I wasn't going to wait for a smaller body to enjoy moving, dressing up or taking up space in my own life.

Then I Found My Voice

My body changed over the years. The bigger change was quieter at first, then not quiet at all: I found my voice.

I got comfortable being fully myself. My humor came out more. I started setting boundaries and keeping them, protecting my peace instead of explaining it, and saying the thing instead of rehearsing it in the car afterward.

I made more room for what I love, like movement, dance, creativity and building things. I made less room for other people's expectations.

I didn't become a different woman. I became more of the one I already was.

Voluptuocity grew the same way. It started as activewear. It became a brand for the whole woman: the one who moves, the one who speaks her mind, the one who rests and the one who laughs a little too loud at her own jokes.

Different Chapter. Same Woman.

The body changed. The belief didn't.

The Evolution

Still showing up. Speaking up even louder.

These photographs capture two chapters of my life.

In the first, I was already showing up for myself. I was moving my body, owning my style and believing I deserved to take up space.

In the second, a lot has changed. Not just physically, but in how I live, what I create, what I say and what I'm willing to accept.

Somewhere along the way, I stopped editing myself to make other people comfortable. I became more intentional about what I accepted, what I created, and where I invested my energy.

More Than One Thing

I've never been just one thing, and I don't plan to start now.

I spent nearly two decades in dentistry, and along the way, I discovered that my interests and abilities extended far beyond the operatory. Today, I bring that experience into business, strategy, and the many creative pursuits that make me who I am. I'm a mother. I'm a creative who always needs something to make. And dance, including ballet and pointe training, is one of the most meaningful parts of my life.

Those parts of me don't compete. They inform each other. My interests keep evolving, and so do my ambitions. You don't have to shrink yourself into one identity to be taken seriously. Bring all of you. I'm bringing all of me.

What Voluptuocity Means to Me Today

Today, Voluptuocity is where everything I care about meets: movement, wellness, self-expression, humor, creativity and the everyday pleasure of enjoying your own life.

It's activewear that doesn't ask you to change first. It's a tee that says what you were already thinking. It's a candle you light just because you wanted to. It's a journal for the thoughts that aren't ready to be said out loud yet.

It will keep evolving, because I will.

I didn't create Voluptuocity to tell women who to become. I created it because I believe we deserve the freedom to be fully ourselves.

So come as you are, and bring your voice.
